New boss laps up Latics life

The 44-year-old quit his post at Darlington on Thursday afternoon before penning a two-year deal with the Latics later in the day. And he told Sky Sports News: "I have had a couple of years at this level before with Doncaster where we finished eighth and 10th so it's a great opportunity to come to a club with great tradition. So I'm happy to be here. "You can do coaching badges and all the courses but they don't teach you about administration and all the problems you're going to get with that. "At least I can come here and plan for the future. It was a tough period." Meanwhile, the Latics chief admitted he would have no qualms over asking departing manager Joe Royle for advice, he added: "It will be foolish not to. He's got vast experience and I have just had an hour with him now."
