Maher set to renew old rivalries
The 32-year-old moved to the Latics from Southend after 10 seasons - and there is no love lost between the two Essex clubs.
He skippered the Shrimpers for six of those campaigns and played a full part in many heated derbies between the two sides.
"We've had a few run-ins over the years and I had a few good results over Colchester in my time with Southend," the midfielder told the club's official website.
"We will be looking for three points to build on recent results but they are not a bad side and I'm sure it will be a tough game.
"I'm sure one or two of their fans will have something to say for themselves."
