Latics to announce new manager tomorrow
Press conference set for 10:00am The Latics are poised to announce the successor to Dave Penney at a press conference at Boundary Park tomorrow at 10:00am. Rumours have been flying everywhere but it is expected that the new manager will be Paul Dickov. It is also expected that he has not given up the desire to play and it is anticipated that he will become the player/manager.Former boss Joe Royle has given the seal of approval to Dickov, whom he knows from his Manchester City days. Royle said, “When I arrived at City, there was no more enthusiastic man about the place than Dicky. Everyone remembers the goal he scored in the play-off final, but he was absolutely massive for us throughout the whole of that season. They need someone who is there for the long haul and someone who is going to build a side, to put his own stamp on the place. It may take three or four years to do that, and that’s what they’re looking for.”
