Latics suffer injuries

"If you had asked the staff they would have wanted it would have to remain injury free during pre-season." Athletic's 1-0 friendly win over Championship club Preston North End came at a cost. When Ryan Brooke scored the only goal of the game he had to be taken from the field with damaged ankle ligaments after a harsh challenge from the Preston keeper. In addition Reuben Hazell had to be substituted after aggravating an achilles problem which had been previously troubling him.Assistant manager Gerry Taggart said, "The last thing we wanted to do today was to pick up injuries, but unfortunately that has happened. I was very nervous before the game and was very conscious of players getting injured and we have lost Ryan who is going to be a big player for us this season. If you had asked the staff they would have wanted it would have to remain injury free during pre-season. That hasn't been the case, but we have got the lads together, told them what we wanted and they have all pulled together. We are reasonably happy where we are at, but the fun and games start next week when it really counts."
