Oldham geared up for the new League One season with a thrilling 5-4 triumph over Rhyl. Andrew Crompton, Djenny Bembo-Leta and a trialist full-back handed the Latics a 3-0 lead at the break before Crompton added his second shortly after the restart. The Welsh hosts pulled a goal back but Connor Hughes soon restored Oldham`s four-goal advantage. But three late strikes from a rallying Rhyl side set up a dramatic finale as the Latics held on for victory. Although Oldham boss Paul Dickov will be concerned after seeing goalkeeper Greg Fleming forced off with a knee injury midway through the second half.
