Latics end with friendly win

Oldham ended their pre-season campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Championship side Preston at Boundary Park. The game`s only goal came five minutes before half-time when Ryan Brooke sprung the North End offside trap to collect Reuben Hazell`s long ball before slotting past Andy Lonergan from a tight angle. Unfortunately for the Latics, Brooke collided with the Preston goalkeeper in scoring and was stretchered off. But Brooke was not the only injury victim before the break as North End centre-back Sean St Ledger pulled up with a hamstring problem minutes later. In the second half, the game developed a slightly heated edge and Oldham substitute Kirk Millar was lucky to remain on the pitch following a reckless lunge on Callum Davidson. Preston`s best chance of an equaliser came with 10 minutes remaining when young striker Jamie Douglas pulled his shot wide when clean through on goal.
