Latics director thanks Sheridan

Sheridan parted company with the Latics on Sunday after a week of controversy, including a number of alleged incidents following a team night out at Belle Vue dog track, which culminated in a 6-2 hammering at MK Dons on Saturday. "This has been very upsetting and a tough decision, but we have been in a bit of a rut of late and we feel this is the best course of action," Corney told the club's official website. "John has done a great job here and I am sure he will go on to better things. It was a learning curve for him and we are sad that he is gone, but that is football and we must move on. "Myself and John have become good friends and I would like to thank him for his services." Sheridan, who was at the Boundary Park helm for almost three years, was replaced by returning legend Joe Royle just hours after his exit was announced.
