The Latics recorded a 2-0 win at Hyde United on Monday to kick off their pre-season friendly schedule and will travel to Halifax on Thursday. Penney acknowledges Saturday's trip to Gigg Lane to face Alan Knill's League Two outfit will provide his side with their sternest test yet. "We don't want to push on too fast and it is important we make it a gradual build-up," said Penney. "The objective is still fitness and by the time we finish the game at Bury this coming Saturday we will be three games into pre-season and the fitness levels we have achieved should begin to show."
