Latics allow Gilbert to move on
Gilbert is looking for a more permanent contract and has left in a bid to secure another deal elsewhere before the transfer window closes.
Latics boss Dave Penney said: "Pete wanted to get some stability and we could only offer him a week-to-week contract.
"Pete's been honest with us and said he doesn't want to stay on a short-term deal and so we've agreed to part ways.
"I would like to thank Pete for his excellent work ethic and professionalism whilst with the club and wish him all the best for the coming season."
