another deserved win in build up game

An attendance of 6,589 were on hand to witness an injury-time goal from Jonathan Grounds which helped to keep the Latics pre-season build up on the boil. Premier League champions Manchester City included many of their Euro 2012 stars; Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, James Milner, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Nigel de Jong all took part in last night's friendly at Boundary Park. The home side took an early lead through Robbie Simpson and City's Roque Santa Cruz hit the upright late in the first half but the Latics went in 1-0 to the good.

Santa Cruz equalised just after half time after keeper Alex Cisak collided with Jean-Yves M'voto. He was on hand to take advantage and easily slipped his way past Cisak to score. Both teams made changes and, with the game fizzling out, a corner from Youssouf M'Changama was headed back across the face of goal by M'voto to Grounds who hammered the ball into the bottom corner to give the Latics a deserved win.
