"He's a rough diamond"

Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris has become the first signing for mamager Lee Johnson. The 18-year-old has agreed a 12-month contract, subject to approval, with an option for another second year. An undisclosed fee has been agreed. Clarke-Harris is 6ft 2in but has not made a first-team appearance for Posh in the campaign that sees then get relegated. He had loan spells at Southend United and Bury and faced the Latics when a Matt Smith winner sealed the points to help guarantee safety for the Latics. Johnson believes he has unearthed an uncut diamond and hoped to mould him into the finished polished article.

Johnson spoke of the game at Bury and said, "In the first half of that match he was excellent. He was big, strong and scored a great goal which was disallowed. I watched the DVD of the game afterwards and like what I saw. When it comes to the risk and reward factor, Jonson is definitely worth it. He has all the attributes and potential to be a very good player. He is by no means the finished article and a lot of development work will be needed. And it is our job to do that because he could be anything he wants."
