Sean Gregan has revealed how he almost needed to undergo a lower leg operation this summer which could have potentially spelt the end for his career. The 36-year-old made an earlier than expected return for Oldham against former club Preston on Saturday after recovering from troublesome problems in his Achilles/ankle area. A scan highlighted a total of nine problems in that part of his leg as a result of his lengthy career - pain which seems to have been settled by an injection. But Gregan told the club`s official website: "It looked at one stage as though I might need an operation which would have kept me out until Christmas. "It would have been very difficult to recover from that for someone of my age. "I am delighted where I am at, though I am obviously behind the rest of the lads fitness wise. I will be working hard and putting in extra sessions when they are not to try and catch up."
