"I joined Latics as a 13-year-old" Paul Gerrard has returned to Boundary Park as the club's new part-time goalkeeping coach. Gerrard left the Latics fourteen years ago when he was transferred to Everton in a £1 million deal. He rejoins the club after being on the backroom team at Stockport last season.Gerrard is delighted to be back at Boundary Park and said, "It feels strange, but at the time it is nice to be be back where it all started. I joined Latics as a 13-year-old and I made by debut in the Premier League aged 19 which was a baptism of fire. I had some great years here, especially those in the Premier League. I was lucky Joe Royle had the confidence and belief to put me in the team at such an early age and it stood me in good stead for when I joined Everton.”"It was a new experience at Stockport with the club in administration. Basically they had no money and there were times when we (the management team) paid for things out of our pockets. I was on the bench as goalkeeping cover so was doing two jobs for Stockport."New manager Paul Dickov added, "Paul was a fantastic keeper as I know from playing against him and also having him as a team-mate at Blackpool. Paul has played at the highest level and fits into what I want in having people here who are young and hungry. Goalkeeping is a specialised position and I am sure our keepers will benefit from working with him."
