Dickov upbeat despite defeat

Oldham manager Paul Dickov took the positives from his side`s display as they exited the Carling Cup in a 2-1 first-round defeat at Scunthorpe. Martyn Woolford drove home from 20 yards to seal the win for Nigel Adkins' men, but Oldham had deservedly led at half-time through 18-year-old debutant Djeny Bembo. Jonathan Forte was a constant threat for Scunthorpe and equalised midway through the second half, although the ragged nature of their victory was underlined when substitute Sam Togwell was given a second yellow card in the dying seconds for dissent. Dickov said: "The lads are all disappointed. It's hard to take when you've worked like we did for 90 minutes and we want to win every game. "But I'm happy with what the boys have done. I said when I came in here that we need to make it hard for the opposition to play against us, but that doesn't mean we can't play football ourselves and we did that here." Dickov confirmed that the transfer chase for Oldham youngster Tom Eaves is "ongoing", with Bolton as the front-runners, but the focus at Glanford Park was on fellow Boundary Park youth product Bembo.
