"I was more concerned about building up fitness than the result"

Manager Paul Dickov was pleased with the Latics' first pre-season game at Mossley, a 3-0 success. The boss was more concerned about building up fitness than the result.

Dickov said, "I am satisfied, though we know we have more quality and are better than that. It was more about fitness and the boys had double sessions on Monday and Tuesday and we also worked them really hard on the morning of the match. We wanted them to come into the game tired and, given those circumstances and the state of the pitch, I have to be reasonably happy as we kept a clean sheet and scored three goals. It is always good to win pre-season games but, as we have seen before, it means nothing if you lose the opening game of the season as we have done before."
