Oldham boss Paul Dickov paid tribute to his players after they gave him a winning start to his managerial career with a 2-1 victory at Tranmere. Midfielder Dale Stephens, 20, struck in the 27th minute with a fine free-kick which sailed into the bottom corner from 18 yards. Stephens added a killer second with another fine finish with nine minutes remaining to leave Dickov beaming with delight. The 37-year-old former Manchester City and Scotland striker said: "The players worked hard and there was a lot of passion out there. "We got the result we deserved and I am sure we will get better as time goes on. "It was a good three points for us but we've got to keep our feet firmly on the ground. It is one game out of 46 and we must not get carried away."
