Dickov - "I was sure we could turn it round"

The Latics buckled down and fought for a deserved three points at Crewe Alexandra last night to silence the doubters who believed that Paul Dickov had lost the plot. The victory was a one sided affair and the scoreline could have easily been 6-0 as the manager admitted that the standard has now been set. Second-half goals from James Tarkowski and Matt Derbyshire sealed the win to move the Latics out of the relegation zone and at the same time relieve the pressure on the manager.Dickov confessed, “I know there was pressure and I understand it but I was sure we could turn it round. Crewe are a good team. Against MK Dons on Saturday, they were very unlucky not to get anything. We suffocated them when they didn’t have the ball, especially in the first half. How we didn’t come in three or four up, I’ll never know. They have set their own standard now. I keep saying I believe in them and the sort of football they can play. We have to continue it now and move on to Saturday.”
