ball-boy incident escalated

The club have issued a statement following an incident with a ball-boy near the end of yesterdays match at Bramall Lane. Lee Croft went to retrieve the ball for a throw-in and the ball-boy inexplicably kicked the ball away thus preventing the player from taking a quick throw in. Croft said something to the lad and the incident has been escalated into the claim of a potential 'racial' incident. Croft approached the boy after the game to offer to shake hands but he was rebuffed in what looked like an unacceptable way. The statement is as follows:

"Oldham Athletic Football Club was made aware by South Yorkshire Police after today’s npower League One match at Sheffield United of an allegation of racist abuse by one of its players. The player has categorically denied the allegation and the Club and his team mates are fully supportive of him. The Club understands that the police are making inquiries into the allegation and, as a result, will not be making any further statements in relation to this matter."
