"It is something I have been working towards for six years" Matty D Carr has signed his first professional contract with the Latics after he put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months. The 18-year-old central defender was delighted with the deal and said, “It is something I have been working towards for six years since joining Latics' under-12 Centre of Excellence team. It means everything to me and it is my reward for working hard and doing well in the youth and reserve teams.”“It looks as though we will have a smaller squad and a young one so hopefully I will get my chance, take it and kick on. I had a taste playing in two pre-season friendlies last year and the 3-0 win against Bolton's first team was the highlight of my career so far. To help the team keep a clean sheet was a dream for me. Tom Eaves scored a hat-trick in that game and look what has happened to him since then?"
