Scunthorpe manager Ian Baraclough remains keen to sign Oldham winger Chris Taylor.
The Iron want to secure a replacement for Martyn Woolford and had a bid for Taylor rejected in January.
Yet Baraclough told BBC Radio Humberside: "You just don't go off a player and we put in a very, very good offer then.
"I suppose people will put two and two together that they [Oldham] couldn't pay their players last week. But it doesn't mean they want to let him go."
Baraclough added: "Unless I'm told differently he remains an Oldham player and they want to keep him because they're still in or around the play-offs."
