Away day success for Latics

Sorry Swindon devastated The Latics picked up a useful three points on their final away day of the season. Chris Taylor did the damage and hammered another nail into the coffin of already relegated Swindon Town. The win was only Athletic's second win in 18 league matches, their other one coming at Notts County. Taylor took both goals and moved into double figures for the season as well as becoming the Latics' top scorer.Manager Paul Dickov was quick to praise the ginger winger when he said, “They were fantastic finishes and Chris has been excellent in my time at the club. They were two great goals and, for a 24-year-old, he has a lot of games under his belt. He is an experienced lad and I still believe there is a lot more to come from him. Technically he is very good, he has a good attitude and I love having him here.”Youngster Ryan Burns was given a surprise first-team debut on the right wing. Burns was one of five teenagers in the team, the others being James Tarkowski, Carl Winchester, Jason Lowe and Aidan White. Another teenager Phillip McGrath, was also given an appearance when he came on as a late substitute. Dickov continued, “I am delighted because we had a very young side. Any time you go away and pick up three points is good and to score two goals and also keep a clean sheet was especially pleasing.”Taylor's first goal came in the 17th minute when he let fly with a rocket shot from 30 yards. Midway through the second half Taylor struck again but this time it came against the run of play. He shot goalwards but his shot was blocked and he reacted quickly to slam home the rebound into the bottom corner from the 18 yard box. It must be added that Dean Brill played his part too with some top drawer saves. Poor Swindon have now failed to win at home in 2011.
