Notts County boss Steve Thompson had no complaints after seeing his side's Carling Cup campaign ended in round one by Championship outfit Coventry City.
The Magpies were unable to match their run to the fourth round of the competition last term, as they were well beaten 3-0 at the Ricoh Arena.
Thompson told the Evening Post: "We wrote a fairytale last year, but we have come up against a very good Coventry team with a good manager in Iain Dowie.
"He has recruited a lot of good players and the difference was when they needed that little bit of expertise or cool finishing, they produced it.
"We shot ourselves in the foot and the first goal was an individual error and the second two we were not defending properly.
"We were too flat, too straight, and too high and we allowed players to run behind us."
