Sven linked with Notts takeover

Sven-Goran Eriksson has been linked with a takeover of Notts County following reports that current owners Munto Finance have put the club up for sale.

Eriksson arrived at Meadow Lane as part of the mystery Middle Eastern consortium which took over the League Two club in August.

Munto Finance revealed ambitious plans to make the Magpies into a Championship side within five years with director of football Eriksson a key figure.

The former England manager is believed to have been the driving force in persuading Sol Campbell to make his brief and ill-fated move to the club.

Campbell arrived as a free agent but left just five weeks into a five-year contract after citing his desire to play at a higher level.

Manager Ian McParland was sacked in October despite a reasonable start to the campaign and was replaced in the hot-seat by Eriksson's associate Hans Backe.

Now it has emerged that Munto Finance are looking to sell the club, with reports claiming that Eriksson and chief executive Peter Trembling are considering a takeover bid.

Eriksson's own future with the Magpies has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks following suggestions that he was keen to step down in order to take the helm of the Sweden national side.

He has also been reported to be at loggerheads with the club's owners over outstanding payments.
