Short proud despite defeat
Published : 22 Sep 2010 13:00:24

Boss Craig Short expressed his pride in his players following Notts County`s Carling Cup defeat at Wolves.Lee Hughes put the Magpies ahead after 57 minutes, but the Premier League side equalised through Nenad Milijas` penalty with seven minutes remaining to take the third-round tie into extra time.Substitutes Steven Fletcher and Kevin Doyle put Wolves in control but Kevin Smith`s 114th-minute goal set up a tense finale at Molineux. However, Doyle struck again in the final minute to seal a 4-2 win for the hosts."We were leading 1-0 and had the chance to make it 2-0 and finish them off," said Short. "But I am exceptionally proud of all of them. They are so disappointed. It was there for the taking."Hughes displayed a t-shirt emblazoned with the words 'Boing, Boing' after opening the scoring - the chant of his former club West Brom. It was his response to being booed and coming in for verbal abuse throughout from the Wolves fans.Short added: "He expected abuse, it fired him up. He caused their centre-halfs so many problems."
