Schmeichel heading to Notts

Notts County have secured their first headline coup since the arrival of new owners Munto finance and director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson after sealing a deal for goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

In what is likely to be a club-record deal, the Denmark Under-21 international has penned a five-year contract with the League Two side to underline their intent of gaining promotion.

Though the fee is officially undisclosed, the club are thought to have parted with over £1million to secure the player's signature from Manchester City.

Eriksson gave the son of Manchester United great Peter his first-team debut at Eastlands, but the 22-year-old has since had loan spells in the lower leagues.

"It is a great signing for the club, obviously. He is one for now and one for the future," said Magpies manager Ian McParland.

"Hopefully he will be here for a long time and become a firm fans' favourite and also help us up the league."
