Notts make sweeping changes

Notts County manager Ian McParland will not be offering new contracts to eight players following the club's flirtation with relegation to the Blue Square Premier League this season.

Lee Canoville, Austin McCann, Matthew Somner, Jason Lee, Lawrie Dudfield, Andy Parkinson, Gary Silk and Rob Austin will all be leaving Meadow Lane this summer, while new contract offers have been made to Kevin Pilkington, Mike Edwards and Stef Frost.

McParland admitted: "It isn't a nice time of the year and tough decisions have had to be made, you can't keep all of the players.

"I want to freshen things up in the squad, and the boys who are leaving us are good lads in general.

"It isn't nice having to tell them they won't be retained, but football's a cruel game and I'm sure those lads moving on will get fixed up next year somewhere.

"I know how it feels having been released as a player in my time and I've been told I haven't got a job for the next year in the past; and some of the decisions were difficult, I'll admit that."
