Notts draft in Thompson

Notts County manager Ian McParland has moved quickly to sign Oldham Athletic defender John Thompson after learning that Michael Johnson has joined Stephen Hunt and Jason Beardsley in the Meadow Lane treatment room.

The 27-year-old former Nottingham Forest defender has been drafted in at the start of a busy period that will see Notts play five games in only 15 days.

McParland told the club's official website "I've worked with John in the past and he's a terrific addition to our squad.

"He's a solid defender and, at this moment in time, we're a bit short on the ground at the back.

"With two midweek games in a row coming up over the next fortnight it was always going to test the squad, so I felt it was best to get someone in who can do a job for us."
