New deal for Magpies boss

Notts County have handed new one-year contract extensions to manager Steve Thompson and assistant John Gannon.
Thompson took over at Meadow Lane last summer on a three-year deal, but has been rewarded for steadying the ship following their relegation from League One with an additional 12-month extension.
The former Lincoln and Cambridge boss is now tied to the club until summer 2010.
"It is well documented it was a difficult period in the summer of 2006 to put together a squad capable of competing in the current season," chief executive Geoff Davey told the club's official website.
"Despite a couple of tricky patches before and after Christmas, Steve Thompson's team have performed particularly well, making a flying start and finishing quite strongly.
"All in all, the board of directors felt significant progress has been made on the field of play and have rewarded the manager and his assistant with an extension of one year."
