McParland tracking Davies

Notts County manager Ian McParland has confirmed that he is hoping to bring Shrewsbury Town's Ben Davies to Meadow Lane.

Davies is out of contract at Shrewsbury at the end of June and has yet to pen a new deal at New Meadow.

However, Shrews manager Paul Simpson is hoping that he can retain his players whose deals have expired, after they reached the League Two play-off final in May.

Simpson commented: "At the moment the strength is in their court as they have until the middle of next week to make a decision.

"As we get closer to that date their strength tends to wane a little and things turn back into our favour.

"I'll continue to talk to them and I'm hopeful that we're close on a couple of them. I'm still hopeful that they're all going to be coming back to us."

McParland confirmed his interest in the player on the Magpies' official club website.

He said: "Ben is a talented player who would offer something different in midfield to what we already have and I have spoken to his agent.

"In fairness, I have spoken to a lot of agents about a lot of players in the past couple of months and Ben Davies is just one of those."
