McParland hails Magpies win

Manager Ian McParland was ecstatic after watching Notts County cause a shock in the first round of the Carling Cup by beating Doncaster Rovers 1-0.

Myles Weston scored the only goal of the game at Meadow Lane, leaving the Magpies hoping for another home draw in round two.

McParland told the Evening Post: "It was a fantastic win. We changed the team and shape a bit, because they play a 4-3-3 and play it very well.

"I thought if we played a 4-4-2 they would have passed us off the field.

"I thought we matched them and I thought we had a sniff of winning the game. We got it, which is massively important.

"I didn't enjoy too many games last year but I have enjoyed watching us play this season.

"We came up against a Championship side who passed Derby County off the field on Saturday. They made two or three changes, but all the players that came in were experienced campaigners."
