Magpies search for striker

Notts County manager Ian McParland has confirmed he is still trying to sign a striker before the end of the transfer window.

McParland has been chasing a frontman throughout January, but all attempts to bring in a new face to join his forwards have proved to be fruitless so far.

McParland has been pleased with the form of his side of late, which included a Jamie Forrester hat-trick in the weekend's win over Port Vale and he stressed that he is not going to dip into the transfer market for the sake of it.

"The hunt goes on, certainly. I've made inquiries about a number of strikers; two or three who I can't get," he told the club's official website.

"People keep asking me when I'm going to bring a striker into the club, but I'm not going to bring anyone in for the sake of it. It has to be right for us.

"I don't want any bad eggs and have to make sure they are right for the dressing room."

Meanwhile, Neil MacKenzie has joined non-league side Mansfield Town. The midfielder had his County contract cancelled by mutual consent and joins the Stags on non-contract terms.
