Magpies pleased with steel

Notts County boss Steve Thompson believes he has added some much-needed steel to his squad during the close season.

Midfielder Neil MacKenzie, defenders Paul Mayo and Adam Tann and striker Hector Sam have all agreed moves to Meadow Lane and Thompson is delighted with his acquisitions.

"I have made a conscious effort this year to not only bring them in for their playing ability, but also how tough they are as well," he told the club's official website.

"Tanny and Mayo are tough lads, as are Hector and MacKenzie. This league is very tough and you have to be able to handle yourself.

"We will have a big team, and the main thing for me is to have a big team that can also play football as well."
