Magpies close to new signings

Notts County manager Ian McParland has confirmed that he is close to making two new signings.

A defender and midfielder spent Thursday afternoon at Meadow Lane to discuss possible moves after the club made formal offers for their services.

The two players have now been allowed to consider both offers, though McParland was encouraged by what he described as 'very positive' meetings.

"We've made good offers to the players concerned and they've gone away to think about what we've put in front of them," McParland told the club's official website.

"They would be very exciting signings for us and I hope our hard work pays off.

"The meetings were very positive and I think if we can get them in their quality would certainly help us attract a couple more players to join us.

"I am very confident on one of them. The other I think would have snapped our hands off had we been in a higher league, but hopefully we have been able to persuade him.

"He sat down and spoke at length with us, listened to what we want to achieve here and I think he was impressed.

"Overall, it has been a busy day. We've been in and out of meetings and spent a large part of the day on the phone."
