Kevan eyeing promotion

Notts County caretaker boss Dave Kevan is setting his sights on promotion from League Two after his side finally bowed out of the FA Cup.

The Meadow Lane outfit found Fulham that bridge too far on Sunday as the Premier League club cruised to a 4-0 victory, securing a quarter-final clash with Tottenham Hotspur or Bolton Wanderers.

Despite the heavy loss, Kevan saw enough on the day to believe his men can clinch promotion after running their more illustrious opponents close at times in the contest.

They almost scored through Ben Davies and Craig Westcarr, but they were denied by great saves from Cottagers keeper Mark Schwarzer in the first half.

He said: "I was very pleased with the lads' level of performance. We created some good chances.

"Sadly we didn't take them but we can be very proud of ourselves.

"It's just disappointing the final scoreline shows it was a one-sided game because that wasn't the case.

"Fulham are a very good team. They have got some very good players and we saw that but we matched them in large parts of the game.

"We spoke about the league straight after the game. We've done really well to get to the fifth round of the Cup.

"Now we have to focus on the league and Grimsby on Wednesday night."
