Notts County have confirmed rumours that they rejected a six-figure offer for David Pipe before the transfer window closed last Wednesday.
The Magpies have also revealed that Stephen Hunt and Lawrie Dudfield have signed contract extensions at Meadow Lane, while Jay Smith has penned a permanent deal with the club.
Chief executive Geoff Davey told the club's official website: "The offer for Pipe came from a club that we'd wish to remain unnamed at this time, which is their wish also.
"It was a six-figure sum and was one that perhaps in some peoples' minds was difficult to turn down when considering the financial position the club has been in over the last few years, and given that finances are still delicate.
"But, turn it down we did. I think the chairman and board of directors are to be commended on taking a decision which effectively underlines the club's ambition.
"Contrary to an earlier report that said we had extended Jay Smith's loan until the end of the season, we have in fact signed him on a contract which for the moment is 18 months.
"We have also taken the opportunity to extend Stephen Hunt's contract and we've been delighted with the way Lawrie Dudfield has been performing in recent weeks.
"Lawrie too has happily agreed an extension to his contract which was due to expire at the end of this current season."
