Notts County midfielder Gavin Strachan is almost certainly out for the remainder of the season.
The 29-year-old, who only signed for the Magpies in January, damaged medial knee ligaments in a midweek friendly against Chesterfield and was forced off the pitch just after an hour of play.
Aberdeen-born Strachan has only just returned to first-team action after several weeks on the injury list due to a hamstring problem.
Magpies assistant boss Dave Kevan said: "Gavin twisted awkwardly and damaged his knee. It's a massive blow."
Strachan joined County in the January transfer window from promotion-chasing Peterborough United.
He first signed professional terms in 1997 with Coventry City, making his debut in the Premiership in a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa as a teenager.
