County loan star could stay

Notts County have been boosted by the news that their on-loan defender John Thompson could remain at Meadow Lane for the rest of the season.

Thompson, who is due to return to Oldham next week, revealed that a verbal deal is in place but nothing is set in stone.

"Nothing has been sorted out yet so I'll take every game as it comes," the 27-year-old said.

"There's still no news on what is going to happen but I have still got until next week here, so I'll have a chat with the manager."

He will miss what could be his last game for the club, a trip to Aldershot, after picking up five yellow cards, meaning Jay Smith or Adam Nowland will come into the team.
