Notts County manager Hans Backe has admitted that it is proving difficult to attract high-calibre players to Meadow Lane with the club in League Two.

The Swede is only prepared to sign new recruits of Championship quality as they continue their assault in the lower reaches of league football but the ambition remains to be seen.

Speaking to Evening Post, he said: "If we need players in January, hopefully we can get them.

"But they have to be top-class players who can handle the Championship level, otherwise it's not the right way to do it.

"The ambition is there but it's not that easy to attract players to play in League Two if they play at a higher level and are high-profile players.
