Allen axed after Pools defeat
Notts County boss Martin Allen was sacked shortly after a 3-0 defeat at Hartlepool.
Allen had expressed his disappointment in his players after an Antony Sweeney double and an Andy Monkhouse goal gave Pools all three points.
Speaking prior to his sacking, Allen said: "We've averaged a good return in recent games - been solid and hard to beat. We passed well but didn't have a threat in the final third. They looked like scoring each time they went in our box and we got what we deserved."
He added: "Individually there was no good performances, a lot of players will be disappointed with their performances and it's not good enough for this club that's for sure.
"Our performance was nowhere near what we want, every time they smashed the ball forward they were dangerous.
"Their goal was a free header from eight yards, it's so disappointing. We've kept clean sheets of late, defending as a team and the first was particularly disappointing. We are all disappointed with that goal."
Neale Cooper shared the praise around his Hartlepool players after the comfortable victory.
Pools have lost just once in six games and this was their third home win from four.
They lost at Preston in midweek and Cooper admitted: "Everyone played a part and I didn't need to say a lot to them. They all knew how disappointed I was with losing on Tuesday, they gave me everything.
"It's so pleasing for me and the fighting spirit they have for each other is immense. The conditions were awful out there but we were superb. The back four and goalkeeper were solid and gave nothing away."
