Thompson hopes for County progress

Notts County captain John Thompson believes last term's turbulent promotion campaign will steel his side for life in npower League One. On the eve of last season, the Munto Finance consortium brought in Sven Goran Eriksson as director of football at Meadow Lane, with former England defender Sol Campbell following weeks later as a marquee signing. But the dream turned sour, with Campbell leaving and Eriksson following close behind when it transpired all was not as it seemed with Munto's operations. The fact that the League Two title came at the end of a season featuring three different owners and four managers was all the more remarkable. "It will help us," Thompson told the Nottingham Post. "The spotlight was on us throughout last season, we became known as the biggest club in the division. "Hopefully other clubs in League One will get talked about and we will be allowed to quietly go about winning games. "Our experience will stand us in good stead during the campaign. The majority of us have played at a higher level. For the ones who haven't played at this level before, it is a great opportunity for them to show what they can do."
