Rovers pay penalty

A penalty deep into added time by Jeff Hughes saw Notts County beat nine-man Tranmere 3-2.

Referee Michael Naylor dished out 10 yellow cards and two late red cards, for David Raven and Adam McGurk, who was penalised for a handball on the line which gave Hughes the chance to secure County three points from the spot.

Tranmere scored after their first attack 10 minutes in when a well-rehearsed corner routine saw skipper John Welsh slam the ball into the top corner from just inside the box.

The Magpies deservedly levelled early in the second half with a volley from right-back Justin Kelly, and they were ahead soon after as a curling Alan Sheehan free-kick was glanced home by Krystian Pearce.

Substitute Joss Labadie pulled Rovers level from a hotly contested free-kick which deflected into the net off the County wall before the drama in stoppage time gave the Magpies victory.
