Spicer looks to cement place

Notts County midfielder John Spicer hopes he has done enough to persuade manager Craig Short to stick with him in the starting XI. The 27-year-old began just two of County`s opening nine league matches but he has been thrown in from the start of the last three npower League One games against Sheffield Wednesday, Carlisle and Plymouth. Spicer, who faces tough competition for his place, said he believes he has taken his chance but knows he needs to keep putting in the hard graft and is not taking anything for granted. He told the Nottingham Evening Post: "I feel like I have done well in the last few games and it was good to get on the scoresheet against Plymouth. I like to get forward from midfield, so it was good to get on the end of one. It was frustrating to lose the other two games but I thought we did well in both of those. "I wouldn't say I'm establishing myself in the team after only three games. I will keep taking each game as it comes and I hope I can stay in the team. "I will continue to work hard to get better so I can try to play an even bigger part for the team. If I perform well, hopefully I will stay in the team, but it's not for me to say that scoring a goal is enough. It's the manager's decision."
