Short fears Davies departure

Notts County boss Craig Short fears losing Ben Davies when the transfer window opens in January. Davies is the Magpies' leading scorer this season with seven goals and netted a career-best 16 goals for the club during the last campaign. Notts turned down a bid for the forward from Championship club Derby before the summer transfer window closed at the end of August, and Short believes the 29-year-old will be sought-after again in the new year. "I'm sure there is still interest in him. I think clubs were waiting to see if he could do it as this level, and he is comfortably," Short told the Nottingham Post. "I fear January. He's a huge asset to the club. He's 29 and he's probably playing the best football of his career. He's very mature and he's an excellent professional. He always works hard in training and in the gym and it's paying off in games. "I think a lot of players might have had their head turned by the interest he had, but he hasn't. He has got on with it."
