Rodgers goal not enough for Magpies
Former Nottingham Forest forward Kris Commons came off the bench to earn the Rams a deserved win with what appeared to be a cross that deceived Russell Hoult with 12 minutes remaining.
Rams forward Steve Davies continued his impressive form to cancel out a Jay McEveley own goal and Davies missed a penalty before Robbie Savage's cross looped into the net to give Derby a half-time lead.
Rodgers levelled for the Magpies midway through the second half, but Nigel Clough's side continued to probe and were rewarded when Commons struck the winner.
