Rae unconvinced by costly penalty

New Notts County assistant manager Alex Rae was left to rue a "dubious" penalty which turned the game in the Magpies' defeat against Southampton. County took the lead after just nine minutes of Paul Ince's first game in charge since replacing Craig Short through Mike Edwards, and had plenty of chances to build on their advantage. However, the game tipped in the Saints' favour when John Thompson brought down Lee Barnard in the area. The Magpies skipper was sent off, Rickie Lambert netted the penalty, and further goals from Barnard and Adam Lallana completed the comeback. Rae said: "It was a dubious penalty to say the least. "I think in terms of our application though, we were certainly first class. We're obviously disappointed, and to lose in that way is a double blow. "We've missed some great chances, but we've got to get back to training on Monday and prepare for Hartlepool."
