Former Derby and West Brom shot-stopper Hoult, 36, can be recalled at 24 hours notice under the terms of the move, should County number one Kasper Schmeichel suffer an injury.
Magpies boss Ian McParland said: "Russell is unlucky not to be the first-team keeper at the moment.
"It's best for him and the team if he is able to remain playing first-team football in order to keep his hand in and retain match fitness."
