Defensive headache for Magpies

Notts County have defensive problems for the visit of Peterborough.

Gary Liddle and Manny Smith are suspended following their respective red cards in the League One opener at Sheffield United and the Capital One Cup tie with Fleetwood, while Haydn Hollis is still struggling with a knee injury. That leaves skipper Dean Leacock as the only recognised centre-back.

Liddle will serve the second game of a three-match ban following hissending off against the Blades while Smith will only sit out this weekend's fixture after he was dismissed for two yellow cards.

Youngsters Greg Tempest and Callum McGregor impressed during the first-round victory over Fleetwood on Wednesday night and might have forced their way into manager Chris Kiwomya's starting line-up on Saturday.

Peterborough are expected to be unchanged.

Posh began the League One campaign with a 1-0 home win over Swindon, prompting boss Darren Ferguson to name the same side for the Capital One Cup tie at Colchester in midweek. After seeing his team return home from Essex unscathed following their 5-1 victory, Ferguson is likely to opt against changing a winning formula.

"The players are performing well and are keeping hold of the shirt, but they know that players who are not in the squad are desperate to be involved and they put in a good display this week in the development game," Ferguson told the club's official website.

The likes of Joe Day, Mark Little, Danny Swanson, Jack Payne, Emile Sinclair, Nathaniel Knight-Percival and Jaanai Gordon will be amongst the Posh substitutes at Meadow Lane.
