Liam Noble strikes late as Notts County edge thriller with Newport

Liam Noble's goal deep into added time earned Notts County a remarkable 4-3 victory at home to Newport County after a thrilling contest at Meadow Lane.

Newport were two up inside 10 minutes, with skipper Mark Byrne sweeping home a 25-yard free-kick before Alex Rodman completed the dream start when he smashed the ball into the top corner from just outside the area.

But the hosts soon edged their way back into the contest and got the goal they deserved after 34 minutes, Joe Day's gaffe allowing Noble to fire into an empty net.

The midfielder then turned provider on the stroke of half-time when Izale McLeod buried his free-kick that came back off the post.

McLeod finished off Jon Stead's sensational ball after 71 minutes, but up popped Scott Boden seven minutes from time to seemingly rescue a point for Newport.

But in the last of six minutes added on, Noble pounced again from close range to hand his side an unlikely victory and send Meadow Lane into ecstasy.
