Portsmouth clinch promotion with victory at Notts County

Portsmouth celebrated promotion to Sky Bet League One after substitute Jamal Lowe's late goals sealed a 3-1 victory over Notts County at Meadow Lane.

Backed by more than 4,000 supporters, the visitors took the lead in the 14th minute when Kal Naismith was brought down by Richard Duffy in the penalty area and Gareth Evans stepped up to send Adam Collin the wrong way.

County gradually clawed their way back into the game and Jorge Grant was denied by goalkeeper David Forde.

But they suffered a blow before half-time when skipper Michael O'Connor went off with a knee injury.

The hosts hauled themselves level early in the second half, though, when Elliott Hewitt picked out Grant, whose exquisite half-volley found the far corner.

However, Pompey hit back and Collin saved brilliantly from Naismith and winger Kyle Bennett.

But he could do nothing to stop Lowe sealing Portsmouth's promotion with a brace - his first, in the 77th minute, was from outside the area before he chipped Collin in the last minute.
