Relief for Northampton as Brendan Moloney seals win at Notts County

Brendan Moloney handed Northampton all three points at Notts County as his second-half strike sealed a 2-1 win.

The Cobblers - whose staff have now gone three weeks without pay amid ongoing financial troubles - had started the brighter of the two sides and were rewarded when Rod McDonald headed in after half an hour.

The Magpies tried to summon a response before the break and came close to levelling when Genaro Snijders smashed the foot of the post with a fierce drive.

Disgruntled home fans booed the the hosts off at the break, but they were soon cheering in the second half as they drew level.

A long-range pass from Alan Sheehan was brought down by Liam Noble in the box and as the ball was left to Jon Stead, he made no mistake with a cool finish.

Third in the table prior to kick-off, Northampton responded strongly and were rewarded when Moloney drove home from the edge of the box on 76 minutes to stretch the Cobblers' unbeaten run to six games.
